High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
Inside our classroom, students can participate in a variety of enriching activities that nurture their personal development and interests. Collaborative projects with the University of Melbourne and the University of Technology Sydney provide valuable opportunities for students to explore STEM subjects, while partnerships with Yellowbelly Studios foster the growth of their creative skills.
Across our school
Beyond the classroom, our school offers a variety of programs that promote physical fitness and community involvement. Sport training runs throughout the year, covering disciplines such as cross country, volleyball, and rugby league, allowing students to improve their skills, teamwork, and overall wellbeing. Clontarf training is another important initiative, supporting targeted groups to enhance their physical education and leadership skills. Furthermore, the school-wide BHS Reading Challenge encourages a culture of literacy and fosters a love for reading among students of all ages.
Across NSW
At the statewide level, these programs contribute to a broader culture of excellence and holistic development in the HPGE community. By participating in statewide events and competitions related to sports and academics, such as cross school volleyball tournaments, Write a Book in a Day or chess competitions, students have valuable opportunities to connect with peers from other schools and showcase their talents beyond their local environment. These initiatives help foster teamwork, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning across New South Wales.
